Building UCR Connect: A Social Media App for UCR Students

UCR Connect was created with a simple idea: give University of Costa Rica students their own dedicated space to connect online.
The app allows students to create and share posts, comment, react, and follow campus-related updates — all within a platform built specifically for their community.
My role was focused on the backend development, where we implemented core features such as authentication, post management, comments, reactions, and analytics.
We worked within a Scrum framework, participating in sprints, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
The project followed a microservices architecture, with separate services for user management, posts, analytics, notifications, and more — each developed and maintained by different teams.
Backend teams collaborated closely to define service contracts, standardize API responses, and ensure smooth integration across the system.
